Review of the Hot Air
Popcorn Popper
The hot air popcorn popper appeared on the market in the 1970's, and since then there has been as
much debate about whether or not it is really a healthier popcorn popping option than its counterparts as there are
variants of the hot air popcorn popper.
Generally, the hot air popcorn popper works by spinning corn kernels in a chamber and gradually
generating hot air that makes the corn pop and flow into the popcorn compartment, and this method means that the
popper does not require any oil to be added to the popcorn at all. This has the benefit of making the hot air
popcorn popper a non-stop popping machine, since no added oil means it can run for lengthy periods without the need
to stop to replenish the oil supply.
It is also said that because no oil is needed, the resulting popcorn is healthier than popcorn made
by other methods, but this argument may be quite flawed for a number of reasons, the most prominent of which being
the fact that most other popcorn poppers use such insignificant amounts of oil to make lots of popcorn that the oil
factor is negligible if you are trying to opt for a healthier option.
Many people also suggest that popcorn made with oil is much better tasting than the popcorn made
with a hot air popcorn popper, due to the added moisture and other
general differences. Those who are in favor of the hot air method say that all you need to do to get better popcorn
from a hot air popcorn popper is to use corn that has a higher level of moisture, such as gourmet popcorn, which
some people may find appealing, while others feel that it is better to use non hot air poppers that makes great
tasting popcorn regardless of the corn used.
The hot air popcorn popper uses a different method to pop its corn, but whether or not it is a
healthier option will always be grounds for debate - in the end it is a matter of opinion and you should go with
whichever option suits your own tastes.
